Spring Break for Groups

Travel to Iceland on a service-learning trip with Compass.

Each spring, we invite groups into our unique service partnership in Iceland.

Our spring break trip will take you to the front line of hands-on partnerships in Reykjavik and the surrounding area of Iceland. You’ll serve alongside Icelanders working in the Salvation Army in the northernmost capital of the world.

Spring Break 2024 trips are now closed, stay tuned for details regarding Spring Break 2025.

COMPASSION

Iceland is a refuge for a large population of asylum-seekers and immigrants. Many of them are in Iceland temporarily. Some are seeking to resettle permanently.

JUSTICE

Compass partners with the Salvation Army in various locations throughout Iceland. The Salvation Army’s priority is to meet all the physical needs of everyone who enters their ministry — both Icelanders and those from outside their borders. Through our partnership, we work to bring about justice in the lives of those seeking refuge and a new start.

HOPE

Against the beautiful backdrop of Icelandic culture and landscape, we embody hope, not self-seeking but self-giving. While our mission in Iceland is to pour out, our work in Iceland renews and empowers us as well.

SCHEDULE

Travel dates and schedule events while in-country is tentative and exact events are subject to change.

Every day on the program will begin with personal quiet time. Each evening will conclude with small group debriefing, known on Compass as ‘table talk’ as well as journal content and programming provided by Compass.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Students fundraise for their Compass experiences. The fundraising goal varies from group to group based on their itinerary and travel dates.

Once established, the fundraising goal covers the cost of the entire trip including food and lodging, bus tickets, airfare to and from Iceland, and all expedition and ministry expenses in country. Although students are required to cover any travel or airport meals, our itinerary includes no layovers. We suggest you bring spending money in case you’d like to buy souvenirs of any kind. But it is possible to get in and out of Iceland without purchasing any of these (we’ve managed it ourselves).
