The Compass Year

Connect. Educate. Inspire.

Compass empowers organizations and churches to better equip youth for their passion and purpose. Through focused community partnerships, we invite youth and leaders to travel an incredible journey together.

Over the course of nine months, groups embark on a wilderness adventure, explore life’s big questions, and dive into multicultural service work. Compass curriculum empowers youth to grow as leaders and further discern their life’s purpose. It also equips community and church leaders for long-term mentoring relationships with their youth.

The Compass Year is a nine-month journey that’s divided into three expeditions:

WILDERNESS EXPEDITION

You’ll embark on a wilderness adventure in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York or White Mountains of New Hampshire. You’ll grow in team-building, problem-solving and confidence.

ACADEMIC EXPEDITION

Dive into life’s pressing questions alongside college professors, thought-leaders and theologians. Engage with different academic fields and participate in workshops and trainings that help you chart your future path.

LEADERSHIP EXPEDITION

Execute projects and implement your ideas for making justice and change a reality in one of the world’s most beautiful and unique countries. Travel with Compass to Iceland, where you’ll serve alongside local leaders working to bring hope and compassion while embracing their incredible culture.

EXAMPLE COMPASS PATH SCHEDULE

Timing of each expedition is flexible, but here’s an example of what your Compass Year may entail:

Compass is a faith-based, non-denominational, Christian organization and we serve both faith-based organizations and organizations from all backgrounds. Participation in faith practices is not a requirement for a group to embark on a Compass journey.
