From the Archives

  • Compass is an incredible experience that unites people with a common interest to serve. It allowed me to discover new aspects of myself in a completely new environment while also constantly learning about others as well. I found that being in a new environment allowed me to see who I am as a person and not just who I am in a comfortable and familiar place.

    — Katherine

  • On Compass, I rediscovered parts of myself that I forgot were there. I found the girl that never questioned whether she was valued; the girl who accepted love without hesitation; the girl who constantly felt alive; the girl who loved every moment of her life and feared nothing. This trip reminded me that she still exists. I know now what I have to do to help keep her alive.

    — Adrena

  • (Compass) was an incredible, life-changing experience. Within this program I’ve become completely different. I’ve become more mature, self-assured and better prepared to navigate life as a young adult. Now I hope to help others in the same way Compass helped me grow.

    — Maimunah

  • Compass has made me realize what I had in me the whole time. It cracked open an aspect of my identity that I thought I lacked. I learned that my internal thoughts can push me to continue if I let it, and that I should let it push me more.

    — Keiana

  • I feel very fulfilled from this trip and I would love to participate in another program.

    — Maggie

  • Compass has changed my life. There's no way to explain the ways that this trip has impacted my life course. This has been absolutely profound and there's nothing that could've truly told me the ways I'd be impacted on this trip.

    — Brady

  • This has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I will never forget it, and it’s inspired me to pursue more opportunities like this.

    — Kenioloi

  • I recognized my own potential in ways new that has truly changed the way I view myself and forged the path to who I want to be.

    — Jorge

  • I learned that I am a valuable person no matter who is with me.

    — Nathan

  • Staring at the constellations from the lagoon with these people who were all strangers to one another just a week prior made me realize the power and ability we all have to connect and unite for a common goal.

    — Katie

  • No one will come out of this trip the same person.

    — Yumi

    —Emma

  • (Compass) changed my life. I haven’t felt this happy in a very long time. I was the best possible version of myself on this trip and I want to keep this feeling going for as long as I can.

    — Adrena

  • Compass helped reignite in me a desire to serve and helped me learn my strengths.

    — Faith

  • Compass was the bridge between my indecisive self that could not imagine this trip becoming a reality and the blessing that it actually was. I’m really thankful to Compass because they made everything flow really smoothly and provided with the support that we needed.

    — Jonathan

  • I honestly didn't know what I was looking for when I came to Iceland on this trip, but through the friends I made, I was able to find myself, along with my motivation and inspiration for all things good. I've been depressed for most of my life, but I can honestly say that I didn't feel any sadness or emptiness throughout the entirety of the program. It was a welcome feeling.

    — Roxanna

  • This trip allowed me to take a breath. I arrived in Iceland feeling frantic and anxious about what was next. I left feeling like my lungs worked again. I'll never forget the people I met or the memories we made.

    — Rachel

  • This experience was a long, deep breath for me. It's easy for me to get caught up in my own thoughts and worries, and move through life tense and stressed, like I'm holding my breath. On this trip though, I was able to breathe easily. I was able to really self-reflect and see how far I have come and am still going on my own personal and faith journey.

    — Antonia

  • On Compass, I learned that I can thrive with new people. I feel so much more confident in just embracing myself from the start and being authentic with others.

    — Brett

  • On Compass, I felt like I could truly bring my entire self. It reminded me that there is something so much bigger bringing us all together. I’ve never connected with a group so quickly and deeply in such a short amount of time. I don't feel the same as I did at the beginning of the trip; my spirit feels renewed by laughter, service, and love.

    — Mia

  • On Compass, I learned how much I need reflection in my life and how I am happier when I give thoughts of grief, anxiety, and stress a space— to actually feel instead of escaping. I've healed so much in such a short time and I now have some tools to continue that growth on my own.
